Hakka Republic’s wine list is selected on only one criteria – Quality. If a wine offers value for money so much the better, we’ll even sell it by the glass. The objective is to make enjoyable wine drinking affordable and allow our customers the opportunity to experiment, to explore new wines and styles. While the number of high quality wineries are increasing, there are some wines that are exceptional and it would be a disservice not to carry these wonderful offerrings. These include some very special wines from Italian winemakers who will become, if they are not already, legends. From Veneto there is the master, Dal Forno and rising star Tommaso Bussola whose Amarones must at least be tried once in a lifetime. From Piemonte, we have the masterclass in Barolos from the exquisite Bruno Giacosa and the unheralded perfectionist- Roberto Voerzio whose wines have been described as the Pomerols of Piemonte. Tuscany is well represented by their primera liga of Super Tuscan producers. Hakka Republic is probably the only wine bar and bistro in Asia to carry the trio of Masseto, Messorio and Redigaffi , the Italian response to Petrus in particular and Pomerol in general. Also from Tuscany we have Montevertine's pioneering Le Pergole Torte, Isole e Olena, Ornellaia and the silky smooth Siro Pacenti. Why the emphasis on Italian wines? Well in today's market, they offer outstanding quality at relatively sane prices compared to the lofty levels of many top flight Bordeaux and Burgundies. For the Francophiles, do not despair, we love the French (wines at least) and we do have a generous selection which includes the incomparable Lafite- Rothschild and Ch. Latour and many other premier crus along with their second wines. Before you think that this is a stuffed up, overpriced ripoff, our staple is actually a great collection of affordable wine by the bottle in the range of RM80-200. There are dozens of truly wonderful wines from France, Italy, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia and world cup hosts South Africa.
BY THE GLASS HAKKA REPUBLIC is the first in Kuala Lumpur to offer 20 champagnes and wines by the glass all perfectly preserved in our Enomatic machine for wines. Argon, an inert gas is pumped in after the wine is dispensed to prevent oxidation. Uniquely to allow everyone the opportunity to try different wines we also sell half glasses and even tasting portions for all wines by the glass. For white wines we have Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminer, Simonsig Chenin Blanc, Luis Felipe Edwards Reserve Chardonnay and Tenimenti Grillo. For red wines we have 12 different styles and price points to choose from. These include Tua Rita Rosso dei Notri , Le Macchiole Paleo, Bodegas Rejadorada Novellum, Los Vascos Grande Reserva, Barratt Bonnyton Pinot Noir, Chateau Belle Eaux, Les Jardines de Soutard, Parker Terra Rosso 1st Growth etc. We also have Le Machiole’s fabulous Paleo by the glass. It is a beautiful award winning Cabernet Franc that will blow your mind away.
Champagnes Hakka Republic as someone pointed out to us unusually, has excluded some very popular champagnes. Yes we have, and deliberately as many of them are poor value for the quality in the bottle. The value is all in the marketing and branding and NOT in the quality of the fruit where it matters. For our house pours, we have Duval Leroy the only volume producer to maintain enough standard to be included in the Top 100 wines. Our other house pour needs little introduction-Jacquesson. Although a small producer, it is already acknowledged by connoisseurs as one of the top 3 Houses in Champagne together with Krug and Bollinger. The sheer quality and unique styles of this house compels us to carry the entire range!!! Splurge on a Jacquesson Rouge which is a fabulous (but sorry, a little costly) pink champagne (we are reluctant to use the word Rose as its structure is more like a Red wine) and you will have a unique experience.
By the bottle we have to have Krug who is alone at the very top of the best champagnes. Interestingly, Mr. Krug learnt his craft at Jacquesson. We also have Pol Roger whom we feel does not get enough credit for the exquisite champagnes they make. Their cuvee Winston Churchill are one of the few premium champagnes worth paying for.
